Voices & Choices event organised by CICC

The Children in Care Council (CiCC) recently organised the ‘Voices & Choices’ event for children in care aged 8 -13 that gave them the chance to have their voice heard using creative arts – rap, street dance, graffiti and comedy /storytelling.

After a quick game led by the CiCC members it was straight into the workshops to get creative – they were looking at contact with family, what makes a good social worker, understanding more about your past and our most memorable times in care.

As well as the children and young people having a great day the staff who were with us also enjoyed it:

‘It was brilliant to see the kids in a different environment to our contact centre. Some of the things that they performed and produced were fantastic’

‘The children were all very open and honest about their experiences about being in care’

‘I was most proud to be part of this day and thoroughly enjoyed seeing our young people come alive’

‘One young person said to me that he was having such a good time that he wanted to stay there and not go home!’

Thank you to all of the staff who supported the day
