Thrive Mental Health Commission's Awards - Nominations are now open
Nominations for the second annual Thrive Mental Health Commission Awards are now open.
The awards, which are co-ordinated by the West Midlands Combined Authority, celebrate the individuals, teams or organisations who have made a significant contribution to improving mental health and wellbeing in their area. They might be a friend, relative, carer or colleague or a mental health nurse or other health care professional or even a whole team, service or organisation.
There are 10 awards, broken down by West Midlands region, with an additional award to recognise the contribution of young people aged 16-25. There will be a further award for the Thrive Mental Health Super Star which will be announced on the night.
Councillor Cathryn Bayton, cabinet member for public health said:
“The Thrive Awards are a fantastic way of recognising those individuals and teams who offer support during the darkest times. It may be a co-worker who is able to offer a friendly ear when it’s needed or a mental health nurse who has provided invaluable support, humanity and humour when things are tough.
“This is the opportunity to celebrate those people who do their bit to improve the lives of people living with a mental health issue and I hope that we see some strong nominations from across the borough.”
Sarah Norman, chief executive, Dudley Council and lead for Thrive West Midlands said:
“The Thrive Action Plan of which these awards form a part is about listening to the experience of those people living with a mental health condition, looking at best practice and drawing of the knowledge of experienced health care professionals to find the best way forward for everyone.
“We’ve already begun to roll out the Thrive into Work employment support service for people with mental and/or physical health conditions, helping them back into work and we’re continuing to look at ways that we can support people and lead the way in supporting and understanding mental health.
“The Thrive Awards allow us to celebrate the work already underway across the West Midlands and we hope will continue to raise the profile of the good work being done and the compassionate and understanding people delivering it.”
The awards form part of the wider Thrive West Midlands action plan on mental health, published in January 2017 which looked at mental health and its impact on the public sector. It was unique in that it looked at the experience of real people with mental health needs alongside the expert knowledge of professional mental health practitioners and organisations. The action plan aims to transform the way people with mental health problems are treated by public services and employers
