Fifth positive letter published by Ofsted this week

Message from Sue Butcher and Councillor Anne Millward

“Positive progress” continues to be made in improving services for children and young people in care in Dudley, according to a letter we received from Ofsted on Monday.

We are delighted to announce that we have again been praised by the government watchdog following their fifth monitoring visit in January which focussed on our work we do with our adoption and court teams.

Ofsted inspector Andy Waugh said the council’s improvement plan “continues to focus on better outcomes for children”.

This feedback demonstrates we are continuing to move in the right direction to transform services and we are particularly pleased it makes reference to the good work of social workers, staff and managers in finding permanent homes for the children in our borough who most need them.

Since the inspection in 2016 we have worked extremely hard to make real changes.

Although we are making positive steps, we will not rest on our laurels. We know there are still areas where improvements need to be made and we have plans in place to address these as we move forward.

We would like to again thank staff for your fantastic efforts in making continued improvements to the lives of our children and young people and to our service over all..

Councillor Anne Millward, Cabinet Member for Children Sue Butcher, Director for Children's Services (interim)
