It Starts with Me: Exciting opportunity to work with West End Musical Theatre company for young people aged 16-25

DYHC (Dudley Young Health Champions) is thrilled to be working on with ‘Performing Perfectly’ having recently found out we have been successful in being funded by Health Education England. Performing Perfectly are a team made up of members of a West End Theatre Company and Life Coaches that work hard to support the growth and confidence of people through using theatre and positive communication techniques. This is to facilitate and enable people to share their own stories and believe in themselves …. The project is based around the idea of the ‘Expert Patient Programme’ and we are looking for between 10 and 15 young people between the ages of 16 and 25 with health conditions – this could be life limiting, chronic, genetic or a diagnosed condition. Therefore we are looking for professionals to identify and put forward young people who they feel may benefit from being part of this powerful project. In particular young people who are social isolated and lacking in confidence or whose education has been affected are particularly welcome. The interests of young people will be at the centre of this project and everything built from this.

Any young person who gets involved will have the opportunity to take part in up to 10 sessions using theatre and coaching techniques to help share their health story in a positive way. They will be given coaching in confidence building, understanding how other’s perceive them, coping and resilience strategies, storytelling techniques and influencing others. Every young person will be offered 1:1 personal coaching. At the end if the sessions young people will be given a platform to share their stories to a wide audience of their families and professionals. DHYC will then be looking at next steps for the young people and taking their ideas and stories to the next level should they wish to. All sessions will include food and drinks – plus travel expenses to and from DY1 community building. At the end of the project young people will have the opportunity to go to a celebratory event which we are hoping will be a theatre experience in London (tbc).

We hope that this project will provide young people with a path that takes them through a journey that will highlight how unique they are despite life challenges. If you know any young person either professionally or personally that would benefit from this project please complete the attached referral form.

If you / a young person / their parent or carer would like to discuss any aspect of the project I would be more than happy to have a conversation. I would also be very grateful if you could pass this to any other health condition based organisations that are working with young people.
